Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lucinda Melder, owner of Physical Results, LLC, located in Galveston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am passionate about helping others be the healthiest and fittest that they can be. My clients can rest assured that I will meet them where they are in their fitness journey, whether they are just getting started or are looking to add something new to their current workout routine. Sessions take place via FaceTime, or clients can work out on their own with my app. At Physical Results, it's all about personalized programs to fit your lifestyle.

Tell us about yourself

I got started in the fitness industry 30 years ago so that I can help others lead a fit and active lifestyle. My real passion is helping people realize how good they feel when they work out and how much more enjoyable life can be when they're fit. I tell my new clients that my goal is to work myself out of a job with them because I want them to find the motivation to maintain their fitness on their own.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am very proud of starting my own business from nothing and of being able to maintain and even grow my business during the lockdown of 2020. I left a job of 17 years to start my business full time and, over the next several years, grew it to where I wanted it to be. Then came 2020. My business up until then was very catered to my clients. I trained them in their homes. With the isolation that came with 2020, my entire business went online and continues that way to this day!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Owning my own personal training business is very rewarding yet extremely challenging in that income levels vary with client retention. Finding new clients is one of the most challenging things in my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you have a clear vision for the future of your business and an outline of how you will get there.
  2. Don't be afraid to try new things to grow your business.
  3. Customer relations should always be top of mind.
