Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Talya Pardo, Founder of Phoenix Rising Mentoring and Editing, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an editor, writing coach, transformational life coach, and intuitive mentor. My customers are authors, budding writers, and everyday people who are looking to transform themselves by healing dysfunctional patterns and limiting beliefs and making the changes that will create the life they deserve to live.

I am a tv show and podcast host of a show called "Soul Speak," in which I speak with others in the healing and coaching world. I love having conversations and learning about different healing modalities, hearing other people's stories about what they have been through and how they got themselves to where they are now, and what they offer to their clients, what unique light they bring to the world.

Tell us about yourself

For many years, I was a children's librarian, and I never thought beyond that. Life took a strange turn, and I found myself looking to change my life completely. I decided to go into book editing to keep myself close to my love of the world of books. I studied and trained with an amazing literary agency for a year and began working with authors, but something was still missing for me. It was connected to the years I had spent working on myself to grow and change and create a better life for my family and me. I decided I wanted to be a life coach so that I could give back to others what my hard inner work and my mentors had given to me. I wanted to guide and support others on their path of healing and awareness.

What motivates me every day is the joy I get from working closely with someone on the story their soul has to tell. That's how I see it all - it's all about stories, and we are the ones who write them, whether to publish as a book or to live them. We all have the power and ability inside us to create the story that lifts us up, bring us to our highest potential, that gives us the purpose we all need to lead meaningful lives. My purpose is to be a vessel for others, to help them shine and create extraordinary stories for themselves.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is that I got this business off the ground! Hahaha, I never thought I would become an entrepreneur, and so this has been a huge mind-shift for me, and great learning curve, and a beautiful experience that I would never change one moment of. It's an accomplishment for me every time someone contacts me and expresses an interest in working with me as an editor, a coach or appearing on my show.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is learning that there is no "right" way to do anything, learning how to authentically share who you are and what you do, knowing that some people will resonate with you and some won't, and that's okay.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Top 3 tips:

  1. There is no "right" way to do anything, there is only the way that is most authentically you.
  2. Don't ever stop or give up on your passion. Keep working hard and make connections with others in your field or like-minded people, with a solid network you will have a wider reach, but also you will have people to cheer you on when you succeed and support you when things don't go as planned.
  3. Always keep learning. You can never learn enough, and you don't know what you don't know. Keep learning, keep acquiring skills and keep growing as a person.
