Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jim Baugh, Founder and CEO of PHIT American, located in Jupiter, FL, USA.

What's your organization, and who are your members?

I am the founder and president of a nonprofit, PHIT America. We are helping children throughout America by improving their physical and mental health through school-based physical activity programs. We work with schools, physical education, and teachers and mostly serve children with fabulous programs that will make them healthier, smarter, and happier.

Tell us about yourself

Having worked in the sporting goods in the tree for over 45 years, including being president of Wilson Sporting Goods, I was inducted into two sports industry Hall of Fame: the sports industry Hall of Fame and the tennis industry Hall of Fame. During this time, I realize the importance of getting kids physically active. However, I quickly realize that kids in America are in really bad shape. US kids rank last and physical health amongst 3812 countries. And our kids are ranked 47 out of 50 countries in the world in fitness. I realized I had to do something to get these children healthier and allow them to compete and be successful in their personal lives in the future.

What's your biggest accomplishment as an organization?

We’re really proud of what we’ve accomplished. We have helped over 740,000 children nationwide and over 1300 schools by placing our physical activity programs in the schools. There’s no question that our programs will help these children become healthier, smarter, and happier.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being an organization?

My biggest hurdle is to get America to realize the tremendous issues with the pandemic of physical activity. The only thing that all kids are moving today or their thumbs using their electronic devices. They become so sedentary, which reduces their muscle and bone development, as well as their brains. We have over 15. Independent research products show that increased physical activity equals improved academic results.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow an organization today?

I think the most important thing is for someone to have a mission that will serve America. I always try to make products and put smiles on people's faces. These programs that we develop do the same thing. I see so many people that are in love with the programs or products or companies but don’t have a real vision for how it’s going to make our country or people better. Then the most important thing is to have a passion for making sure you keep a laser focus to be able to accomplish your goals.
