Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maxime Pouvreau, founder of Petit Pot, located in Emeryville, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Petit Pot makes delicious creamy French desserts potted to perfection. Our desserts are called Pot de Crème, which is a traditional French dessert made with milk, cream, eggs, sugar, and the flavor. Our best sellers are dark chocolate and vanilla bean. We also make a rice pudding, a lemon curd, and a butterscotch flavor. And we now have a plant-based line too.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in France, and there the grocery stores are full of creamy and delicious desserts. When I arrived in the US, I couldn't find those desserts in the grocery store, which is why I started Petit Pot 7 years ago. It's been amazing to see the company grow over the years and see our team expand. Seeing the company grow is super exciting and motivating!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to provide jobs for 45 people is probably the most rewarding aspect of being a business owner. And seeing that number grow every year is awesome! Seeing people smile when eating our products is also super rewarding!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The uncertainty. There are still many ways that the company could fail, and that thought is a little scary.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't give up!
  2. Don't take no for an answer!
  3. Be ready to work hard!
