What's your business, and who are your customers?
Pet Project LA strives to drive pet fashion and lifestyle trends by curating an unequaled collection of premium products for stylish pets and their owners. Our customers are fashionable, important people, while at the same time being fun and laid back.
Tell us about yourself
My start at Pet Project LA began with a Craigslist ad. I knew I wanted to work in a setting that would enable me to spend time with animals, and it just so happened that the pet store down the street from my apartment was hiring. I came on as a retail employee, became manager a year and a half later, and started my adventure as the owner a couple of months after that. The previous owners of Pet Project LA wanted to retire, and they offered me an amazing opportunity to take over.
Seeing and interacting with our human and fur baby customers IRL or on social media is always the highlight of my day. Meaningful connections and having fun at the same time are the freaking best.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think in 2022, most business owners would answer this question in the same way: making it through 2020 and 2021, baby!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is not working 24/7. Finding the right work/life balance is always a tough one, but I am finally practicing and getting better at it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Try not to get bogged down by the day-to-day and remember why you are doing this.
- Remember to go back to the basics and analyze your data to make sure your business is doing what it needs to do to be sustainable.
