What's your business, and who are your customers?
Perfect PoundCakes is a family-operated bakery that specializes in assorted flavored Poundcake and Poundcups (Poundcups are poundcake batter in a cupcake form). Our Poundcake/cups are dense, moist, flavorful, and each flavor is created with special toppings. Our Poundcups are packaged as personal and corporate gifts. We service retail, wholesale, corporate, and we deliver.
Tell us about yourself
Perfect PoundCakes was started in 2016; it was born from a family recipe and a dream. Unfortunately, there were no commercial kitchens for rent nearby when we launched our business, so I drove 45 minutes each way to bake and deliver our Poundcakes. In 2018, we opened our own storefront. We drove all around Connecticut and beyond to purchase used equipment to open our own bakery/commercial kitchen. Upon opening, I decided to rent my commercial kitchen to aspiring bakers who were looking to launch their business.
My goal was to help others launch their dream, how someone helped me launch mine. I'm motivated by my family. My goal is to have a successful business that can be used as a platform to assist others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is having no debt! Items are purchased for the bakery by reinvesting the profit for whatever is needed.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is wearing multiple hats and prioritizing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself.
- Live within your means.
- Think outside the box.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Being a business owner gives you the opportunity to define your own destiny. Which allows you the opportunity to find your purpose in life.
