Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Terry Stewart, Founder of Perfect Chef 4 U, located in Brighton, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a private chef and catering company. My customers come from a wide variety of backgrounds. One common thing is that they love good food, eating out, and socialising. They range between 30 to 70 years of age.

Tell us about yourself

I am a proud father of 2 young adults. I have been working in high-end establishments in London for many years. I eventually became a successful head chef in London and then eventually moved to Brighton, where I now reside. I have always been highly ambitious and motivated to do the very best I can at whatever I do. I have been lucky enough to work under and with some exceptional chefs. I saw how they worked, the food they'd produce, and most of all, the passion they all showed; this inspired me to emulate them. When my son was born, I decided I wanted a bit more control of my free time. I took the plunge to set up my own company 10 years ago exactly. It has been a long hard, but rewarding journey. I am learning new things every day, especially about myself. I believe you have to have passion, faith, discipline, a good work ethic, and the knowledge to succeed.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There are many, but I think the biggest for me is making it to 10 years in the business with limited resources.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is time management; you have to be disciplined.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Become an expert in your business.
  2. Work hard but smart.
  3. Be disciplined.
