Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sujata Martin, Founder of Pelvic Soul - Pelvic Therapy & Sex Counseling, located in Tampa, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Pelvic Soul, our mission is to help people of all genders foster confidence in their bodies through direct patient care and corporate consulting for pregnancy health, postpartum wellbeing, pelvic health, and sexual health. We partner with Twill Care for Pregnancy to deliver digital therapeutics and provide educational sessions for professionals & the general public on various pelvic health and sexual health topics.

Tell us about yourself

I thought it was unthinkable that, as a pregnant person, I was not given any direction on preparing my body for a healthy pregnancy & birth. This led me to pursue further training in pelvic rehabilitation in 2018. Almost 5 years later, I now help people of all genders overcome pain and be healthier in their core & pelvis.
Helping people end pain and regain comfort & confidence in their bodies motivates me each day!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have achieved a lot in 5 years of business. Some of these accomplished are -

  • Being consistently profitable and growing each year.
  • Being recognized with a Merit in Practice award by the New York State Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Having extremely high patient satisfaction.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

My toughest challenge as a business owner is compartmentalizing my work and not allowing my personal time to be taken over by work tasks.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Launching and growing a business usually takes a lot of work & a high level of commitment. Be sure that you have a system in place to avoid burnout.
  2. Use a "profit first" paradigm. Make sure you're paying all your bills (and yourself) before making capital purchases or large investments in your business.
  3. Be sure to make time for personal time, and don't perform work tasks during those hours.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Running your own business can be a wonderfully rewarding experience but comes with its own challenges. Making time for personal life and delegating when necessary will help you strike an effective balance.
