Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nadia Qahwash, Founder of Pelvic Health Harmony, located in Waterloo, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Pelvic floor physiotherapist and pre/postnatal exercise coach. My customers are either pregnant or have just had a baby and may want to know how they can get back to working out safely. I develop customized exercise programs for women and help them achieve their fitness goals.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been interested in women's health and fitness. I used to play basketball at the varsity level and have always valued fitness in my life. After working in a clinic with many women during their pregnancy and afterward, it has been apparent just how much women's health can be overlooked. I truly saw the impact that pregnancy and postpartum could have on a women's mental, emotional and physical health. This is what drives me every day to continue to help as many women as I can get back to feeling stronger and achieving their fitness goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been launching my pre/postnatal exercise therapy program. I have always hoped to help women get back to feeling strong and accomplishing their fitness goals either during or after their pregnancy...and finally, I am doing just that!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think learning to find balance in the beginning, it can be hard. It is easy to get consumed in developing your business in your brand. It can be both a good thing and a bad thing...but finding the right balance so that you don't get burned out is important. I take time to decompress by going to the gym or doing a hot yoga class!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be afraid to try something new in your business.
  2. Find a good mentor/mentorship program.
  3. Make little steps towards the bigger vision.
