Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patrice Hazan, Founder and CEO of GroupHab and TherHab Fitness, located in Simpsonville, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

TherHab Fitness is a company of physical therapists who are dedicated to keeping older adults independent and active. We recognize that the current medical model of expensive short-term physical therapy treatment does not KEEP patients well. We are not settling for the status quo! TherHab Fitness providers are disruptors of a system that is not working. We are proactively offering a new model of physical therapy care that combines independent physical therapy with small group options for long-term solutions.

Tell us about yourself

I am a physical therapist who was tired of treating older adult patients short-term, discharging them with a home exercise program and recommendations to exercise in the community, only to have them return in a few months because they are deconditioned and weak from not exercising at home. It is clear that this is a model that is not working to keep patients well. I knew as a physical therapist; I could do so much more. Physical therapy expertise can and should be used to keep patients well!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments are:

  1. Helping our older adult communities stay active and independent
  2. Developing a program and model of evidence-based classes and a Network of TherHab Fitness providers offering the classes across the country.
  3. The Promotion of this model on a national level with published research and articles in the American Physical Therapy Association professional magazine and professional conferences.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The business aspects, management, and marketing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your passion with action- Do what you love and believe in!
  2. Never give up.
  3. Ask for help and partner with your community.
