Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and professional development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tatyana Hinton, Founder and CEO of Pathos Development Group, located in Stone Mountain, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Pathos Development Group specializes in life and business coaching for adults 18 years or older and all-level businesses- providing a platform/outlet for creative development, self-expression, and solutions-driven results.

Tell us about yourself

Originally from the south Chicagoland suburbs, I moved to Atlanta with 1 concept in mind: to be great and do great things and help others do the same. I converted that concept into a career of passion: using art, culture, emotions, and the applications of modern society to provide personal and professional coaching. I was inspired by and empathetic to the emotional and situational disdain of people and companies- who are seeking forward motion and resolve.

Growing up, I suffered loss and watched others do the same (and what unfavorable decisions they made or circumstances they haven't escaped from), which altered my view on the world and its people. This motivated me to seek an avenue of wellness, prosperity, and expression- which can be applied in one's personal life and the workplace. The curveball life throws at us, the flawed societal constructs, and the tainted yet ensuring spirit of people are daily motivators to continue my work in this field.

I derive my passion from my own experiences- what I've overcome, what I struggle with, and the choice to do better and convert the negative into a positive. It feeds my soul, nurtures my heart, and calms my mind. That state of being is something that everyone deserves to be in, and I feel obligated and committed to helping them obtain it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment thus far has been the feedback from the community regarding the need for me to continue coaching people and helping them work through their problems or provide an outlet for them to be heard. I'm constantly encouraged to keep pushing, get people to open up, and ask the tough questions - letting real life hit the surface while also being a comfort to (creatively) express themselves.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Profit. Finding clients that want to pay for (ongoing) services.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have undeniable confidence in yourself and your business. Be your own biggest cheerleader and critic because sometimes it's only you in your corner.
  2. Do your research to figure out how you'll navigate, what resources/funding you'd need, how to anticipate customer needs/pitfalls within your industry/what path works best for you and your business. Establish values but be susceptible to change.
  3. Keep going! Be prepared to change course but know when to stick with your gut feeling. Don't be afraid to ask for help/to learn/to collaborate. If what's going on makes sense to you, that's all that matters - you just have to create the buy-in, target your niche audience, and secure the closure. It will not be easy or ideal, but you'll succeed.
