Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amar Patel, Founder of Patel Parent Coaching LLC., located in Homestead, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is life and professional coaching for reducing suffering in people's lives. My customers are parents, professionals, and individuals who are looking to build stronger connections with their children, colleagues, or other people.

Tell us about yourself

What got me started working on my business was self-improvement and sharing the "technologies" I have learned for a more fulfilling life. I did not know what I did not know about parenting and living and making decisions intentionally. As a husband and a father, I struggled even though I had 2 Master's degrees and other technical certifications. However, I did not know how to handle strong emotions, heal myself, love myself, working on myself at first. Then, I began to learn the language of how to communicate with myself, how to feel, and how to think. What got me started was an incident involving my daughter where the water boiled over, and I made her feel as though she had nowhere to run to. I felt her pain deeply in retrospect. I said to myself, I will never let that happen again.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is changing myself and watching others around me notice. My business is about "we-first" and not "me-first." In respecting my employees and colleagues, we create a culture of family and inclusion and do whatever it takes to support one another. This contagious philosophy has spread, and our business is rated the best of the best by customer reviews.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The responsibility is one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner. As a leader, I am responsible for taking risks and seeing them fail at times. Learning from mistakes is as critical as taking risks in the first place. Sometimes, it is hard to be responsible enough to accept mistakes and move on positively.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Make sure you do not underestimate the time those processes take, do something that you are really passionate about (start small and grow incrementally), and stay focused (do not try to do it all).
