Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pat A. Tamakloe, Ph.D., President and CEO of GLOBAL REACH Leadership Institute, Inc., located in Virginia Beach, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Strategic Leadership Consultancy as a Leadership Health and Wellness coach, mentor, and trainer for small business, educational, healthcare, and ecclesiastic leaders.

Tell us about yourself

As a veteran of the United States Navy, my business was born from a passion for seeing transformation in the lives of young people who lacked direction and mentorship in their naval careers. Some of these sailors came from broken homes or a nurturing background of psychological trauma. Naturally, as a naval officer, I started to invest more time and effort in developing leaders through their desired goals and realized that I was making an impact and attaining a sense of fulfillment. I had one of the highest rates of successful career promotions in my charge as a military leader.

I retired earlier from military service to grow my business by identifying leaders in industries that had the highest stress levels due to being “people-relations” industries that will need mentorship and coaching or training to excel.

My ideal clients are coaches and leaders. Small businesses, healthcare, education, or ecclesiastic organizational leaders who desire transformational change and strategic skills to enhance their leadership prowess. Additionally, coaches who desire to help make this fulfilling are candidates for my network of agents.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to impact coaches and leaders (clients) weekly across the world and establishing our growing organization in Africa.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding and keeping the right talent for the brand and identifying people who are self-aware enough to acknowledge they need help to become better leaders.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Identify what problem you are most passionate about solving in the world and research it thoroughly to understand it.
  2. Seek out a mentor who has been there, done that, and has been proven successful - study them or seek their mentorship.
  3. Take small steps daily toward established goals with the help of a coach until you earn the credibility and authority of your desired impact in the business/industry.
