What's your business, and who are your customers?
I opened Paradise Beauty Salon & Spa in 1998; at that time, they were just two little hair salons in Kapa'a. We expanded ten years ago to bring everything under one roof, hair, skin, nails, body, lashes, and the best products to support your care at home. It's been 24 years, and we are still bringing in the latest products and services while staying on the cutting edge! We have three skincare rooms, all equipped for waxing, facials, body treatment, lashes massage, and microblading. That side of the Spa has our manicure stations and, Dermalogica and Hydropeptide skincare, Jane Iredale Mineral makeup. We carry facial tools for homecare as well. On the other side are our stylist stations, luxurious Spa pedicure chairs, and a lovely garden area. Truly a slice of Paradise in the middle of Kapa'a Town!
Tell us about yourself
I went to Beauty School in Belgium after graduating from Antwerp International School. I was always doing my friend's & families' hair and makeup. This elevated education was amazing, taking my skincare skills to another level! Moving to Kauai 30 years ago, I was always doing neighbors' and friends' skincare and hair. I realized then that this was what I wanted more than anything to help people look and feel their best! It's always so rewarding to see those big smiles on their faces; they leave feeling beautiful and nurtured.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is probably staying in business for 24 years. I definitely feel that I am the best version of myself, and so is my business.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Probably the hardest thing as a business owner is riding the wave of constant change and now the lack of people wanting to work!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Working in the business, you want to start to get the knowledge of all the ins and outs.
- Get a great location!
- Have lots of energy, passion, and perseverance!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Be passionate about what you do! It very rarely feels like a job!
