Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pamela Barton, founder of Butterfly Holistic Nutrition + Lifestyle, located in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am helping leaders to elevate their mission and vision by supporting their health foundation so that they can feel less tired, more productive, and reach their goals with ease.

Tell us about yourself

My own health struggles with Hashimoto while working in a fast-paced corporate environment required me to rethink how I treated myself and how I wanted to show up for my work and my goals. I realized that personal health is tightly linked with the success of any of your goals and visions, and I want to bring this discussion to leaders, leadership groups, and HR departments.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the success of my clients. Their health is what inspires me, and their mindset and attitude moving forward to promote long-lasting changes are what my business stands for. I have created several courses, and I am elevating my business to incorporate mindfulness in health and nutrition in a workplace setting.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making the connections that will bring the most mutual benefits. Networking takes time, and building a foundation of relationships takes time. Overcoming financial hurdles in the times of building and creating is often one of my biggest challenges.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on the long-term goal. Don't get sidetracked by initial success, dry spells, or periods of uncertainty.
  2. Put your skin in the game. Find your voice and spend time crafting your vision + mission.
  3. Have a financial plan in place. Decide on a budget you are willing to invest to get started and develop a time plan.
