Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pam Garramone, a Positive Psychology Speaker and Coach, located in Quincy, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Positive Psychology Keynote Speaker, Life Coach, and author of Be, Happier Journal. I teach people science-based things they can do to feel happier. I work primarily with educators at all levels and also with corporate and community organizations.

Tell us about yourself

I first got started studying happiness, like many of the experts in this field, because I wasn't happy. I wanted to feel happier. When I heard about Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, who was teaching the most popular class at Harvard on happiness, I had the good fortune to learn from him that there are simple, science-based things you can do every day to increase your happiness, and it worked!

Now, I get to teach these strategies to others and join the worldwide happiness movement.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being able to do what I love, help people and live a great life!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest thing about being a solopreneur is not having colleagues in an office. It can get lonely at times and challenging to stay on task at home.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top three tips for anyone looking to start, run and grow a business:

  1. Be sure it's something you love!
  2. Build a community of people who can help you specifically, people who are further along than you that you can model.
  3. Build relationships, show your gratitude, and strive for excellence.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I think another key to success is being willing to ask for help and staying curious to keep learning and growing your knowledge. Starting my own business is the best thing I've ever done. I love managing my own time and creating my own destiny!
