Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Paige Schmidt, a Certified Coach based in San Luis Obispo, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Certified Coach helping women to connect with their future selves – the women they want to be, that they can borrow their favorite qualities from her and be her NOW. I'm in the business of stepping into your future self AS IF you were already her.

Tell us about yourself

I started as a Health Coach focusing on Intuitive Eating. As my business grew and as I grew, I expanded beyond teaching and coaching on food. I saw that my clients wanted to step into the vision of themselves that they'd imagine while lying in bed at night. We all have those images of ourselves and who we want to be. THAT's what gets me into my office and working each day is the idea of seeing each of my clients actually stepping into this version of themselves. Not waiting for motivation, but making it as easy and clear as possible to start being her NOW. This is what I call "borrowing from your future self."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Ah, each of the women I've worked with over the last 10 years. It's THEM and their growth that I celebrate. When one of my clients grows, I grow. When I grow, they grow. We work together.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Your mindset. You've got to daily and even hourly be sure that you're thinking AS the highest version of yourself. If you don't, doubt and fear creep in and pull you back. You've got to work FROM a place of what's possible, and you have to take action AS IF you believe in yourself already. The belief comes as you continue to grow. Just start.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Work on your mindset, always leave room for improvement (you don't need to get it perfect) and PRACTICE your craft. If it's coaching, start coaching your face off. Don't get caught up in the details, like having the perfect website. Identify the skill you want to grow in and practice practice practice. Also, BUILD RELATIONSHIPS (this doesn't mean asking other people for things; it means giving to them, serving them, and creating genuine relationships). I'm always working on this one, but it seems to be the KEY of all successful people.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You CAN do it. I don't say this to be motivational, but I say it as a truth. If it's in your heart and you have a passion for it, there is a way to figure it out. Either you bring it to life, or someone else will. Do you want to be the person to give this idea and passion a home and bring it to life?
