Tell us about yourself
I learned to knit when I turned 40. As an adult, I struggled through the learning process until I created my own path for learning how to knit. Within a year, I became an avid knitter and finished my first sweater. I became passionate about helping others learn how to knit using my four steps for knitting success. These steps make learning to knit simple and allow you to advance your knitting skills when you are ready.
Being a knitter has enriched my life in ways I never would have imagined. I hope to help others find the same joy, relaxation, and creative outlet that I have. My knit pattern designs focus on teaching people to knit and advance their knitting skills. I offer online challenges and courses to teach knitting. I also have a small catalog of knit pattern designs.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The greatest accomplishment for my business has been launching Knitting Basic Training. This online course teaches people to knit from absolute beginner to being able to knit from any basic knitting pattern.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
When you love what you do, it's hard to balance work and life. I find that since I love my work so much, the hardest part is closing the laptop at the end of the day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find someone who speaks TO YOU and has a business set up the way you would like your business to be. Then make them your mentor or coach and DO what they say. There are tons of people out there who will show you how to get where you want to be. So find the one who speaks to you and listen.
- Step out of your comfort zone. A big part of starting, running, and growing your business is doing things that are outside your comfort zone. The sooner you learn that, accept it, and begin practicing it, the better off you will be. It's better to do something while you are scared than not do it at all.
- When you get good emails from your people, save them. When you get bad emails from people, keep an open mind. Look at the good emails. Then respond and resolve the issues as best as you can. Then re-read the good emails again. You have just learned something new, maybe even did something new when you resolved the issue. And now you have leveled up as a business owner. Be proud of it.
