Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeanne David, founder, and CEO of Outer Aisle, located in Santa Barbara, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make cauliflower pizza crusts or sandwich thins. Our products are made with fresh cauliflower, not dried. Our products have four simple ingredients: fresh cauliflower, eggs, parmesan cheese, and nutritional yeast. Naturally nutrient-dense and low carb.

Our customers are anyone wanting to improve their diet and get healthy, diabetics, and health and wellness customers.

Tell us about yourself

We started the company out of our own health journey. We took out sugar, bread, and all empty carbs that raised our blood sugar. The goal was to get healthy, lose excess weight and get more vegetables in our diet daily.

Our mission is to revolutionize the bread industry and improve the health of our world. We get customer emails all the time thanking us for making a product that allows them to eat a sandwich on our sandwich thins instead of bread and not have to take an insulin shot! That is our mission!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Bringing the product from concept to market on our own. Starting this business in our kitchen and scaling it to an international product.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The full responsibility of running a hyper-growth company day in and day out. It is also the tone of the most rewarding things!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your niche - make sure it is unique.
  2. Never give up! There will be daily obstacles.
  3. Focus on others - always serving others for your product and your employees.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting and running Outer Aisle has been the most challenging thing that I have ever done. But, it is the challenges that make you grow and become better. Always use challenges to learn and grow. Don't waste the pain.
