What's your business, and who are your customers?
Typically half of our customers are locals, and half are tourists. Ages range from kids to seniors. Anyone who enjoys the outdoors, because we are situated along the waterfront in the Edmonton river valley. We provide fun things to do that enhance people's experience in the valley.
Tell us about yourself
I started working with Segway originally in 2005. Then we were situated at West Edmonton Mall for four years. However, I was born and raised in Edmonton. I know our river valley is widely unexplored and under-utilized by most people. It is actually quite common for locals not to realize the gem we have in our own backyard.
I wanted to be able to provide fun stuff for people to do that can enhance their experience. Segway tours, bike rentals, raft or SUP rentals, or just sit on our water from the patio and enjoy the day. These experiences allow people to enjoy the valley in a whole new way and open many eyes to the beauty of our city.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Sustaining our business for 16 years through so much adversity and finding ways to adapt and thrive under challenging circumstances.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing and retaining good people operating a seasonal business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be prepared to work harder and longer than you have ever in your life. Be prepared not to make a lot of money.

Ensure you love what you are doing because if you don't, why are you doing it?
