Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in healthcare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Glenn Crider, COO of Orlando Treatment Solutions, located in Oviedo, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Behavioral healthcare for adults with mental health and/or substance use conditions.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in the behavioral healthcare field for 22 years. My experience in private and public behavioral healthcare helped me to understand the industry to the point where I can manage and operate full continuums of care on my own. Working to improve access to care and the quality of services for those in need motivates me each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

After so many years of working for corporations, my biggest accomplishment is being successful on my own terms and achieving the independence that I wanted.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Understanding the inherent relationship between freedom and responsibility. One does not work without the other.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand your strengths and weaknesses and how both affect what you do.
  2. Build relationships and network with people who can help you.
  3. Complete a course in economics and accounting if at all possible. Either way, hire an accountant to manage your finances.
