What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide digital marketing services to small businesses, and I consult with addiction treatment centers on SaaS tools, business operations & processes, and help them with business development and referral partnerships.

Tell us about yourself

I am a connector of people at my core and an easy-going extrovert. I cross-pollinate relationships to bring people and communities together, instigating transformations that can make one plus one equal three. I learned early on that being upright and moral is the best policy. Building trust is the most positive way to maintain business relationships. I spent time managing teams in fast-paced retail, recruiting, and the chemical industry. In 2018 I returned to the roots of my Marketing Bachelors Degree and began providing local marketing and campaign strategies, in time at a digital marketing agency.

Orion Catalyst is the aggregate of that experience. Starting a business was inevitable because both my parents were entrepreneurs. The business relationships across multiple industries earned me the expertise to understand business operations. Orion Catalyst seeks opportunities to upgrade systems and works with owners to utilize them. Often, business owners need to be made aware of these opportunities. They must be attentive to move from what's 'working ok' to peak performance. Orion Catalyst identifies services and partnerships that generate more efficient processes.

I'm motivated daily to find businesses to work with in generating more efficient processes, generating more leads through sales techniques or marketing, and showing business owners how to be more profitable. We win together.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been working to earn a client for well over a year. They finally came on board, and we started working together. This week, after only working together for a very short time, my client told me that he appreciates my open communication, likes the work I'm doing and is excited about the opportunity to continue to build on the successes we already have together. Hearing this from a new client is great. I almost can't wait to show the world the success we're making.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

New client acquisition for any business is surely a challenge. New clients for a new business, when you've barely any success with your current business, isn't any easier.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First and foremost, don't jump in without a plan. Spend the time upfront developing a plan for the way you'll do business. This should include what you'll do daily, how you'll market, what your social media or outward-facing persona will be, and how and how often you'll connect with your clients and the world through social media. Know in advance the systems and processes that you'll use, what software you need, and how you will send and receive money to and from customers and vendors.

Be sure to build your website prior to launching your business, or at least in the first month. Have your branding, logo, website, articles of incorporation, and USPTO application all worked out before the launch. You won't regret it after the fact.

Finally, line up at least one steady client (if your business is service-based) before you launch. It will help pay the day-to-day business expenses even if it's not paying you a 'salary' yet. This will minimize how much you 'eat into' your savings or nest egg.
