Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in cosmetics, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Angella Hughes, the founder of Glomalin, organic skincare products in Canada.

Tell us all about your business...

We make and sell organic and natural skincare products, that are completely chemical free, affordable and deliver optimum performance. Our customers are women and men across Canada that care about their health and the ingredients that are in products that they put on their skin.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

I am a seasoned business leader originally from the cleantech industry (water remediation technology). I started Glomalin because my husband was participating in a holistic cancer treatment that involved consumption of organic food and the use of chemical free products. We had trouble finding chemical free skincare products and decided to develop our own. Delivering products that are not only chemical free but consist of organically farmed ingredients means that I can ensure the integrity of products for our customers and support sustainable farming practices at the same time. It's what keeps me motivated.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

Developing, making and selling products that customers love.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

Acquiring the knowledge to act on issues that you have never dealt with before.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

Acquire your first customer as quickly as you can, use your family and friends to test your products and give you feedback, find a mentor for your industry and listen and use their advice to help you grow your business

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Before Glomalin I spent 20 years in the pollution (water) remediation field and came to the conclusion that one of the best ways to clean up the environment is not to pollute in the first place. Making Glomalin from ingredients that have been organically farmed allows me and my company to contribute to a clean environment.
