Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Erin Sherman, Co-Founder of Organic Conceptions, located in West Kingston, RI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an online platform dedicated to helping those who are struggling in their fertility journey. We offer education, coaching, and community to help ease the emotional burden that comes with this territory.

Tell us about yourself

I am a mother of three. I struggled with infertility and secondary infertility for almost a decade combined. My husband and I took our journey and turned it into a tool to help others. I have a degree in education as well as a certification in parent coaching. I also am certified as a life coach.

I use my personal experience, along with my skills as an educator and a coach, to help our members understand and make sense of what they are facing. I am motivated by the real shifts that I get to see my clients make when they begin to do this work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been creating content that resonates with and positively impacts our members as well as the staff that treats fertility patients. Continuing to learn and grow in this space of emotional wellness is an ongoing accomplishment that I strive for.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is striking the ever-elusive work-life balance. I try to be present and prepared for my family as well as my clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The top three tips I would give anyone looking to start and grow a business are;

  1. Find great people to surround yourself with. No one can do it alone.
  2. Passion and finding your why need to be first. This will ensure that you have the stamina to continue to push through difficult times.
  3. Spend time on both passive actions as well as massive actions. In other words, defiantly make time to learn and educate yourself. But then get busy... Far too many people, when starting a business, waste a lot of time looking for an expert or a webinar to tell them how to get things done. Sometimes failing is our best teacher. Just keep getting back into that massive action mode.
