Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Albert Nguyen, Founder of Optimind Counseling, located in Pittsburg, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide individual therapy for children, teens, and adults. I support my clients with their mental health and overall well-being with the ultimate goal of building mental fortitude and wellness.

Tell us about yourself

I understand how hard life can be and how alone it can feel as we face challenges and oppositions - there is a hidden world in many of us where we're struggling, and a part of our emotional selves is left contending with all of that.

I empathize and am passionate in my pursuit to elevate the collective power of human welfare. I am passionate about human potential and supporting people in tapping into their strengths in their times of need.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is actually a compound effect of many small wins and progresses - from completing many blogs, collaborating with others to provide useful resources, starting a podcast, starting and in the process of completing my first children's book for mental health, and many more.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Lack of support and lots of unknowns and uncertainties - many of the structures and securities you'd have when working with a company are gone, and you become the backbone of everything you do for your business. Being a business owner requires extreme accountability and discipline, and faith in the process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Clarify your "why" and reason for starting a business.
  2. Clarify your goals.
  3. You don't have to have it all figured out to begin - there will be a lot that you'll learn along the way, so don't waste time sculpting out the "perfect plan" or blueprint. Just have a basic understanding, work with a mentor, and begin with the attitude of curiosity, humility, and desire to learn.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There is nothing more fulfilling than starting and creating something that adds value to the world that is your own - being a business owner and entrepreneur has no limits, and it's a space that allows for full expression of who you are - your business grows with you. It's a beautiful thing that transcends working for any company.
