Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Holly Harding, founder of O'o Hawaii, located in Hilo, HI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
O'o Hawaii is an integrative line of skincare that utilizes an internal/external approach with volcanic ash-grown Hawaiian antioxidants that help to repair UV damage that creates aging skin. Our customers are predominantly women who live an active lifestyle and want a concise, powerful skincare regimen that truly repairs and allows them to live life to the fullest. A portion of every sale is donated to native Hawaiian bird rescue as O'o Hawaii was inspired by the now-extinct ʻōʻō bird.
Tell us about yourself
I went to nutrition school and realized there was a disconnect between internal nutrition and external skincare and the underutilization of Hawaii-grown antioxidants. I decided to create an oral beauty supplement and seven external skincare products utilizing Hawaii's nutrient-rich, volcanic ash-grown antioxidants that work to repair UV damaged skin.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting on QVC and getting international distribution.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It's lonely at the top! But finding other entrepreneur friends helps!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Keep your ideas to yourself. Don't share with friends and family, as they'll be the first ones to talk you out of it. Find mentors in your space to help in your journey. Always anticipate needing more money than you originally budgeted. Look outside of traditional ways to market your business.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Trust yourself yet be open to advise from valued mentors.
