Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing line but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sophie Collins, co-founder of One Wednesday, located in Vancouver, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

One Wednesday is a female-founded brand based in Vancouver, Canada. While we are both entrepreneurs, we are first and foremost mothers, daughters, aunties, sisters, partners, and friends. We were inspired to launch this brand after meeting once a week on Wednesdays and having unfiltered discussions around navigating motherhood, work, health, and everything in between. From these organic conversations, our vision was born: to create simple products that support and elevate a layered life.

Life is not one-dimensional, and that's why every good we provide is designed to be as dynamic as your day. By crafting pieces that are both functional and beautiful, we hope to enhance the small, ritualistic tasks of being human that are often rushed or overlooked.

We take sustainability as seriously as style. Our products are hand-loomed in Turkey by small, hand-picked, primarily female producers. Our Throws, Robes, and Towels are made with Oeko-Tex certified cotton, which isn't just environmentally friendly but also results in a stronger and smoother cotton thanks to its unique long fibers and quality of the thread.

Our Everywhere Dress is an ode to our plans for the future to supply quality pieces that celebrate the evolution of the modern woman. So whether you're wrapping your baby up in our Throw, relaxing in our Robe with your morning coffee, or drying off after a surf session with our Towel, our collections encourage you to enjoy the journey. From our home to yours, we hope you find the extraordinary in every ordinary "One Wednesday." We're with you every step, sip, spill, and sweat along the way.

Tell us about yourself

Sophie is a mother to Liam and Charlie and lives in Vancouver with her husband. Sophie shares her recipes, lifestyle tips, and even pilates workouts with the underlying mission to help others feel their best.
She began her personal wellness journey after graduating from her MBA, and truthfully, it began in vain. But she noticed that eating mindfully, working out, and dabbling in meditation made her feel her best, and this drove her to continue.

Years later, you can still find Sophie setting her alarm at 6 AM to get in her meditation & Pilates (she recently started sharing her workouts) - walking 10,000 steps per day and making healthy yet delicious recipes.

Last but not least, she is the Creative Director of One Wednesday, a female-founded company that creates high-quality yet attainable products to elevate your everyday life. Her aim is to help you feel your best.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It was pretty exciting to be featured on goop.com this year!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's managing my day-to-day. I'm used to being in a structured environment, and while it's so exciting to have a "blue-sky" day, it can also feel pretty daunting!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Relationships are everything! How you treat people and get to know people is the number one thing in my mind.
  2. Just start! You will figure it out along the way.
  3. Stay as organized as possible, write everything down - I love Google Docs, Sheets, and Drive for this. Alongside my trusted G Cal.
