Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dana Suazo, Founder of One Thread Healing, LLC., located in Broomfield, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is One Thread Healing, and I am available to treat anyone and everyone. However, I find that the people who have naturally found their way to me are dealing with high stress, anxiety, or PTSD. Those who have come to me for services are usually light workers. I have realized I am the healer of the healers.

Additionally, I am thrilled, excited, and humbled to share all of the "extras" that come through in a Reiki healing service. I generally have my clients' numbers on hand and text them with messages that may come in after their session. Sometimes, the statements are songs, or an angel comes in to share a message. These are the parts that I love about my service.

Tell us about yourself

I have always enjoyed helping others out. Being the oldest of three children and growing up with a single mom, I naturally helped everyone. I could energetically see the stress my mother was going through trying to take care of three children, work, and then have to come home to cook and clean. At the age of eleven, I could see the energy leaving my mom and would just naturally help.

I worked most of my career as an office manager at a law firm. Again, I naturally stepped into that position because it was my job to take care of everyone in the firm. Working for a law firm and being the office manager, is a very demanding job. As a result, when my son turned one, I decided to stay home and take care of the family.

I then started a fun fitness business for kids. I started working for a non-profit company called Healthy Learning Paths. With interactive programs, we taught kids all aspects of health. I realized again that I am passionate about helping others, no matter their age. These were the contributions I was making.

A few years ago, I became a board member of "The Inner Wisdom Community." That is when I realized my "intuitive" or "street smart" gifts had led me to my path of being a healer. I have taken various energy classes, Shamanic, etc. I also took all Reiki levels, including the Reiki Master Teacher class. I have also become a Seraphic Wisdom Teacher. That is how I became the healer of healers and a teacher of Reiki and Seraphic Wisdom.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my other "gifts," as I have come to realize, is that I am a connector. For whatever reason, if someone says something they are struggling with, would love to find a place where they can do yoga, or are just talking about a situation they’re experiencing, I receive "guidance."

This guidance helps me connect two people to talk through something they are both struggling with, which leads to them becoming great friends and supporting each other. Another example is that I have connected people to a yoga studio, and it ends up being a win/win situation for both the yoga studio and the person. I am very much about winning in all conditions. That lights me up to connect people to their life paths, whether for a season or a lifetime.

I love it when people come to me and say I have been so stressed out, unable to sleep, or that this world is getting to me too much. After a session with me, they report feeling fantastic, lighter, or having had the best night of sleep they have had in forever. That is what makes my heart sing. I genuinely love helping people!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding balance is one of the hardest things about being a business owner. It is essential to find a balance between work life and family life. It is important to still have joy and fun in your life. We are all here for a short amount of time. It is essential to find that joy we always used to have as children. It is also important to practice self-care. I always hold the mantra, "Healer, heal thyself."

Many healers are empaths and very passionate about helping others, to the point that they give so much of themselves that their bodies break down. Healers need to take time for themselves and care for themselves. It is essential to remember your health first, as you are the one the business depends on.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get out into the community. Community is essential for so many reasons. You find people going through the same things, and it is helpful to find someone you find relatable.
  2. It is essential to network and get the word out about yourself.
  3. I also recommend providing some offerings to get the word out about your services. For example, I provide free meditations, sound bowls, or other types of ceremony type services. You can take a one-sheet flyer to give a list of your services.
