Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Latricia Wright, Founder of Olive Seed, located in Detroit, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Olive Seed is a certified woman-owned wellness company that offers nutritional consultations, wellness programs, and wholesome, health-promoting products. Olive Seed was formed to educate people about the transformational power of nutrition and provide nourishing, palate-pleasing products.

Tell us about yourself

I am a Nutritionist, Auricular Detox Specialist, Herbalist, and Gardener who loves humanity and intentionally makes space for all people regardless of status. I lost my father to a brain aneurysm when I was 15 years old and my grandmother to diabetes when I was 17. Early on, I recognized food as a powerful agent of change – for better or worse. The death of my father and grandmother to food-related diseases is the passion that fuels my work. I started Olive Seed to further strengthen my community (and the world) by increasing the greater availability of healthy food and health literacy to individuals, families, and seniors. My wellness workshops and culinary education program emphasize food for well-being to shift the thought of healthy food from being restrictive or limiting to a more positive understanding of food and its role in one's overall well-being.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the collective success of my clients. I have the unique ability to give my clients the skills that they need to make attainable food and activity goals, optimal food choices, and behavior modification strategies to sustain long-term success. Still, their willpower, follow-through, and determination get them there.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing multiple hats and navigating the unknown.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start now, perfect as you grow.
  2. Relationships are the foundation of a successful business.
  3. Hire the right people for the right position.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Approach your self-care routine with intention and consideration of your present and future needs.
