Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in human resources but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lora Brown, Owner of ODAA Virtual Assistant, located in Broken Arrow, OK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a Virtual Assistant Solutions Agency. As an operations consultant, I can see the bigger picture in how a company operates, and then we have a fully virtual and project management agency that can provide the staffing and team you need to implement the solutions you need in your operations and business.

Tell us about yourself

I was in corporate for many years as a Team Developer and Project Manager. Once I dropped out of corporate, I opened my freelancing up to a full-time thing and quickly realized I loved having a team environment. So developing a team of amazing entrepreneurs became my mission. To show that they have a voice and are not just "entry-level employees" but instead highly intelligent people with problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking skills that are needed for businesses. Giving them a voice and a place to showcase that achievement quickly led to the agency.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to empower women and find my own truth and voice in that journey as well.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having the support and the understanding that I work in a competitive world as a non-competitive business. I work as if there is plenty to go around, and we need to pull together to uplift and empower each other, not compete against each other.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Give yourself grace and enjoy the work you are doing.
  2. Not everyone will appreciate your gift as much as you do, and that is okay; they are not your ideal client.
  3. Failure is not a stopping place; it is a growing space.
