What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are OCD North, and we serve those living with obsessive-compulsive disorder to live a life of recovery.

Tell us about yourself

I started working on OCD North in grad school. As part of an assignment, I was researching OCD, and my research highlighted a significant gap in mental health care for those living with the disorder. The gap being so many people suffer from OCD, yet accessing effective treatment is incredibly difficult. As an entrepreneur, I saw a gap in the marketplace; as a social worker, I saw the potential to change lives in a big way.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment to date is knowing my business and my idea provides a livelihood to independent contractors and employees. They can provide for their families because of an idea I nurtured - it's very cool!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me is confidence. I know I can do this, but at times it does get difficult to dig deep and find my confident self.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't wait until the idea is perfect to start something. If you notice a gap in an industry, take it - or someone else will.
  2. Ask for help. If you want to be successful, be humble: it's ok not to know everything.
  3. Have a routine, a schedule, and systems in place to help you and your business run.
