Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melissa Gauna, Founder of Nutritional Therapy Services, LLC., located in Mission, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Nutritional Therapist working with high-achieving women who experience digestive disorders and stubborn weight gain to address what's really at the root of the issue. I find that tough cases involve unresolved trauma or emotions.

Tell us about yourself

It's very common for people to get into nutritional counseling and coaching due to personal health issues. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition back in 2012, and it was difficult to find practitioners to help me reverse and resolve my symptoms naturally. When you understand the anguish firsthand, it leads you to want to help others along the way.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, my biggest accomplishment is that I get to wake up every day doing what I love. My passion is helping people improve their quality of life, and it is deeply rewarding. I get to help women who refuse to go out because of embarrassing digestive issues improve their digestion so they can go back to being the social butterflies they always were. I also get to help women struggling with weight gain and yo-yo dieting lose weight naturally and feel great in their bodies.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When you're a small business, it is difficult to wear so many hats. It can be particularly challenging to know when to hire help. Once you realize you can't do everything yourself and that you shouldn't do everything yourself, it makes it easier to hire.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't wait to hire a mentor. A business coach can really help you grow quickly.
  2. Address any money blocks as soon as they manifest. Don't wait until you're struggling financially to admit you have major money blocks. I struggled with raising my prices for a long time because I didn't feel worthy. Know your value.
  3. Action, action, action. Stop doing busy work to avoid taking action. I always thought I had to be perfect to put myself out there, and boy was I wrong. I realized people don't care about perfection; they care about whether you can help them or not.
