What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nutrition Harmony LLC is a Nutrition private practice and consulting service designed to help individuals harmonize their life with nourishing foods for the body and soul. Nutrition Harmony provides virtually personalized, tailored Nutrition counseling sessions as well as additional offerings such as menu planning and healthy pantry makeovers from a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist to empower individuals to experience the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with tasty, nutritious foods. Nutrition Harmony also provides nutrition consulting for businesses and organizations, as well as content creation, menu planning, staff training, classes, workshops, and more!

Tell us about yourself

My philosophy is that eating well for health and wellness should be simple, accessible to all, and overall delicious! As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, my goal is to empower individuals to experience the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with tasty, nutritious foods. I strive to make Nutrition counseling fun and simple while guiding clients along their own journeys to nourish their bodies and their minds!

Having lived with a nutrition-related disease (type 1 diabetes) for over 20 years, I've learned how to help others by learning to take care of myself! I understand the struggles my clients may experience and can point them towards solutions to make behavior change easier.

Eating is not just a basic need but also the foundation for a healthy and happy life! Nutrition counseling may provide a variety of benefits for those interested in general healthy eating or medical nutrition therapy. My passion for helping others reach their goals nurtures a collaborative effort with my clients to fuel a healthy, nourishing relationship with food. I am also fluent in English, Spanish, and French and provide culturally-appropriate, individualized care.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is helping to make a difference in my client's life and in my community. I've helped my clients improve their quality of life and health through what they eat and have also helped community non-profit organizations with improving the health of their guests or meal participants. Working with local organizations to provide culturally aligned meal design to help increase access to free, healthy, culturally-appropriate meals during the COVID-19 pandemic has been amazing!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part for me is saying "no" to opportunities that present themselves. My skill-set and language skills lend themselves well to supporting a variety of organizations and clients around Nutrition services. I enjoy helping others and want to do what I can to best support those that come to me for assistance. With this may come time constraints, and it can sometimes be challenging to have to say "no." I've learned to be open in my communication with others about time constraints and what I can realistically offer, and this open communication has been a helpful skill to develop as a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research!
Understand the market and the role your organization would play within it. Learn what your unique value proposition is and what helps to set your business apart from others.
  2. Be your own customer!
Understand the client lifecycle by being your own client and assessing your services from the client's standpoint. Understand your strengths and weaknesses from this standpoint, so you can continue to improve and grow!
  3. Be open to new opportunities that present themselves!
By keeping my mind open, I've been able to take on new Nutrition consulting opportunities that I did not initially expect to do when I first started my business. These experiences have led to other opportunities down the road. Keeping an open mind and tuning in to new opportunities can be a great way to grow organically!
