Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Wishnick, co-founder of Nutraberry, located in Kenmore, Washington, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nutraberry upcycles PNW berry seeds by focusing on manufacturing berry seed powders sized from the micron size for the supplement and functional food markets and sized to larger sizes to supply the personal care markets with natural actives colorants and exfoliants.

After Nutraberry perfected and scaled the logistics, supply chain, and manufacturing of upcycled berry seeds, Nutraberry began incorporating its seed powders into retail products.

We think 'Upcycling' is what's next. Our business has folded sustainability into its operation through the upcycling process. Consumers have built a preference for seedless purées. Our business is built around making beneficial use of the berry seeds created during the production of seedless purées (i.e., Upcycling); we refer to this side stream material as 'seed cake.'

Tell us about yourself

In addition to founding Nutraberry, earning a B.S in Chemical Engineering from Madison, Wisconsin, and an MBA in 2011, I bring an eclectic blend of experiences from vending at Wrigley Field during Chicago Cubs baseball games leading into selling glow sticks during college to being lucky enough to have lived and studied in Copenhagen Denmark. I am a Food Safety Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQ), and HACCP certified. My very first job after college was at a Nabisco Oreo production plant, measuring the moisture of Oreo cookies. After that, I worked in production at Baxter Health Care Injectable Formulation lab and then became a validation engineer at Abbott Labs.
