Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fashion but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay Lorusso, Co-Founder and CEO of Nudnik, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nudnik is on a mission to revolutionize fashion – quite literally. With cutting-edge technology, we upcycle pre-consumer organic cotton textile waste into one-of-a-kind genderless kidswear that's as sustainable as it gets! Our customers are parents and gift-givers who care deeply about protecting the planet for future generations through conscious consumerism. By choosing our products, they'll reduce wastewater and energy consumption while giving their little ones an extra special outfit with its own unique story of sustainability.

Tell us about yourself

My twin sister Alexandra and I have a long family history in the waste business, having worked side-by-side with our father at Wasteco for over two decades. This invaluable experience has helped shape and inform Nudnik's mission of upcycling materials into new products that are designed to leave as little environmental impact as possible - something we believe is essential given global waste levels today. To us, this shift towards a circular economy reminds us of the industrial revolution. It carries the tremendous potential to dramatically reduce landfill reliance through bettering existing technology processes. Our children also serve as an important motivating factor; they constantly encourage us to succeed by showing pride in what we do every day!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Despite the unprecedented challenges of motherhood and entrepreneurship, I'm proud to have navigated a global pandemic while continuing to prioritize my children's interests. It takes extraordinary drive and stamina for any parent-entrepreneur in today's world, but especially moms who tend to take on more domestic roles at home - so every day that I stay afloat is something worth celebrating!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Starting a business can be an emotionally intense journey - thrilling heights yet hard depths. As the founder, you're at the helm of it all - and while that can feel overwhelming, we know these moments are ultimately worth this roller coaster ride!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Running a business is no walk in the park. It takes drive, resilience, and ambition to bravely face entrepreneurial challenges. And while we're all too familiar with tales of overnight successes, true success demands more than luck - you'll have to soak up your setbacks along the way and make sure not to let them derail progress! But don't forget what matters most: keep each victory firmly on your radar - whether big or small – as those are some well-deserved milestones en route to achieving that goal.
