Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Neil Patel, Co-Founder of NP Digital, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

NP Digital is a digital marketing agency that helps companies generate more traffic and sales. We work with SMBs as well as large Fortune 100 companies.

Tell us about yourself

I love work. It sounds crazy, but working for me is fun, and I spend 7 days a week working. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I started my journey by creating a company in the employment space. I wasn't passionate about what I was doing, but I loved the marketing portion of the business.

So eventually, I transitioned to just focusing on that, and I closed down the employment website. Eventually, it led me down the path to creating NP Digital with my co-founder, where we love helping companies of all sizes succeed online.
What motivates me is providing results and helping businesses grow beyond their dreams.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say it employs a good amount of people. We are still small, but we employ over 750 people. It's a great feeling to be paying others, and hopefully, some of them will eventually create their own companies and employ hundreds, if not thousands, in the future.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Firing people. I hate it. People need cash to pay their bills and feed their families. Firing is one of the hardest things that a business owner will eventually do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus, focus, and focus. I know I mentioned focus 3 times, but that is because new entrepreneurs take it for granted. One of the keys to my success is laser focus. If you try to do too many things at once, none of them will go as well as you want.
  2. If I had to give two other tips, one would be to pick a large total addressable market. It's really hard to create a big business when you are going after a niche.
  3. The last tip would be to be patient. Everyone wants to grow their business into a massive company in just a few years. It takes 10-plus years to create something meaningful... so be patient.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You don't have to do tons of things to do well. Just focus on doing one thing exceptionally well.
