Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Olivia Napoleon, Founder of Nourish & Liv LLC, located in Chalfont, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nutrition Counseling for those struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, or looking for a way to way out of diet culture while still managing their health.

Tell us about yourself

I was working as a dietitian at a well-known eating disorder program and noticed some barriers to individualizing care, which is so important for individuals struggling with disordered eating. I wanted to create a space for those struggling with their relationship with food as well as help prevent eating disorders overall. Watching my clients break free from diets and learn to love themselves is truly what motivates me each day!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, I'm still just so proud to have taken the move to open my own practice! Each day brings its challenges but also so many rewards. Opening up a space for clients to build confidence in themselves has been so empowering. It has led me to create some wonderful connections with like-minded clinicians and be part of a greater movement towards less dieting and more acceptance of ourselves.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learning to understand the business side of being a clinician has been the biggest challenge since it is something that was not taught in my schooling. Although, it is totally possible!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with others in your community of interest. The small business owners I have met are such genuine and helpful individuals. Find those that lift you up!
  2. Focus on your mission. What does your business have that makes you different than the competition. Niching down can seem scary, but it will provide you with clientele that truly needs your services.
  3. Self-care! Don't run yourself empty. To run a healthy business, you need to hold boundaries between work and personal life. Just like I help those rid themselves of diet culture, let's also work on breaking down that hustle culture.
