What's your business, and who are your customers?
Norse Cove is a one-stop ocean adventure destination amongst the Wild Islands of the Eastern Shore. Stay at Norse Cove Camping in a tent, RV, or in one of the Nordic Huts. Enjoy a sea kayaking experience with one of our guides or take a course. There is space for yoga, campfires, reading, lawn games, and more.
Tell us about yourself
We retired from our previous careers, which involved extensive travel, in 2016. We found a location that held promise for a beautiful oceanfront camping and kayaking experience, close to hiking trails and historic attractions. We started there, and we are still adding new spaces and experiences to Norse Cove every year. Seeing our guests happy, relaxed, and enjoying this space is what motivates us to keep Norse Cove growing.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We are still running a business through the difficult times that the world has experienced over the past couple of years. We have experienced a change in many Nova Scotians that has seen them exploring their own province more and participating in more outdoor activities.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finances. It is a challenge to sustain steady business growth whilst maintaining a positive bank account balance.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do it.
- Talk to people who are doing something similar. Listen to their start-up story. They all have one.
- Be completely involved with your business. Know your clients and listen to what they want.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Seeing Norse Cove grow from ideas on cocktail napkins to what it now makes us smile. Our business allows us to do what we love and share a beautiful place with others.
