Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sam Simmons, Founder of Non-Fungible Ventures, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business, Non-Fungible Ventures, does consulting, advisory, and invests in various web3, crypto, and NFT projects. In particular, I specialize in working with traditional IP holders in creating fandom experiences that allow them to engage their fans digitally by way of NFT technologies.

Tell us about yourself

My background is in streaming and TV media with PokerGO, the world's leading poker content provider. My greatest challenge was truly connecting as a brand with passionate, loyal poker fans who were ultimately chalked up to anonymous viewership and TV rating data.

I discovered NFTs in 2021 after being an investor in cryptocurrencies since 2017. I was immediately fascinated by their potential to build connectivity between brands, teams, artists, and their fans through digital experiences. I'm now consulting and advising for such companies while investing in others whose technology enables it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In addition to the success my clients have had, as a solo entrepreneur, I'm proud of having broken out of an introverted comfort zone by accumulating 10,000+ followers on LinkedIn, appearing on a number of podcasts, and appearing as a speaker at conferences around the world all through web3 industry-related thought leadership work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me has come to time management and work-life balance. As a solo entrepreneur, in a very real sense, you get out what you put into your business.

It can be sometimes difficult, and other times tempting, to go into maximum overdrive in work output, but for my sanity and health, I've found it very important to be mindful of my work-life balance, even if it means forgoing certain opportunities.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your passion - It makes it a lot easier to work and have fun while doing it. Cliché, but find what you love and find how to monetize it.
  2. Take your time - it doesn't need to happen overnight. Sometimes it's better to chase opportunity. Other times it's okay to wait for it.
  3. Don't sacrifice health - Nothing is more important than your mental and physical health. Don't short-change either in the pursuit of entrepreneurial success. Maintaining both will make success come easier.
