Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anne Sagullo, Founder and Owner of Nlytnd4soap LLC., located in Scarsdale, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Bespoke Handmade Artisan Soap. We offer quality soap at affordable prices according to people's budgets and the style they like. My customers range from young children to adults.

Tell us about yourself

I am a surgical technician by day for a celebrity plastic surgeon, and at night time, I have found passion in creating soap of various styles, scents, and designs. I started out with a simple make-your-own-soap kit and questioned how I could make it better. I began researching different essential oils, bases, and botanicals that benefit the skin and different ranges of skin types.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Surviving the first year of business, in my opinion, is a HUGE accomplishment! My business is 1 1/2 years old to date.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

To be honest, tax time and realizing that you should save every receipt and document. Get yourself an accountant who can help you in being a first-time business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it! You will learn as you go, what works, and what doesn't.
  2. Don't be afraid of failure! It's all part of the process.
  3. Have fun and be happy! You set your own boundaries and time to make your business work. Don't overly stress.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I would have never thought I would become a business owner, and I'm glad I did it. Also, I didn't start by using Etsy. I felt that being someone new and whose products weren't well known for the algorithm to place me in the first few pages of searches, my business and products would get lost.

Instead, I started making an IG page, doing a trial marketing/sale, and seeing how it would do. While I saw my profit grow, I saved money and acquired my own website, and have been selling through it since!
