Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katie Chandler, Co- Founder of Nirvana Sisters, located in Westport, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're a wellness and beauty podcast growing into a lifestyle brand. Our customers are mostly women 30-60 years old looking to improve their self-care with accessible wellness tools and tips.

Tell us about yourself

We're two sisters-in-law that connected over our health and wellness. I have a chronic, life-threatening condition called Addison's disease. My co-host and business partner, Amy Sherman, suffers from vestibular migraines, which is a neurological condition. We wanted the world to "listen in" on what we have learned and shared with each other on well-being and beauty. Our goal has always been to take the intimidation out of the often aspirational and intimidating wellness space by bringing in experts that break down how to achieve optimal well-being. Amy and I are not experts, gurus, or editors; we're simply like so many women juggling busy lives and wanting to feel our best. We're motivated by sharing knowledge and empowering women.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Recording, editing, producing, bookings, creating merchandise, and more. We do it all on our own and are self-taught. With nearly 100 episodes and tens of thousands of downloads, our loyal listeners and customers have propelled our growth. We're in the process of producing merchandise and have some exciting collaborations with former guests on the horizon.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When things don't go as planned or growth deadlines are missed, it can be difficult to forge on. Scaling and growth in today's world can be tough; there's so much opportunity aside from traditional business models. Learning and accessing those opportunities is a challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started. If you wait for the "right time," you'll never get anywhere.
  2. Don't do it alone! Having a partner will keep you accountable, and you'll lift each other up in challenging times.
  3. Know your purpose and true north. You are your brand, and your brand is everything; when you're unsure about a decision or growth move, referring to your "why" will give you the answer.
