Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Dauz, a Self-care Coach, Speaker, and Author based in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a self-care coach who helps parent caregivers prioritize self-care so they can lead happier lives for themselves, their families, and children with autism and disabilities. My customers are parents with a young or adult child with autism, rare disease, and disabilities. As a wellness speaker and self-care advocate, I inspire people to prioritize self-care to improve their mental health and well-being. My customers are organizations across the world.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a single mom who co-parents my 16-year-old neurotypical son and 14 year-old-daughter with autism and a rare genetic disease. I'm on a life-long journey of self-discovery to uncover the real meaning and live in peace and harmony. Experience is my teacher, as I had a panic attack at work and was carried out of the office on a stretcher. My body forced me to see I was not okay. I was stressed, overwhelmed, and impatient at the time. I knew my kids deserved a better version of me, as did I. That set off a 7-year journey towards emotional healing and self-care that got me to where I am today. What motivates me is my mission to help caregivers enjoy their journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Writing and self-publishing my first book in November 2021 has been my biggest accomplishment to date.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is to remind myself that I'm responsible for my efforts and not the outcomes. To trust the process and not compare myself with the journey of others.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Listen only to people who have accomplished what you want to achieve.
  2. Join a mastermind or listen to podcasts for an entrepreneurial mindset.
  3. Get clear on your purpose and mission, and make sure you're following your own passion and not that of someone else.
