Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chanichi Calzo, Founder of Nichi CO. Products, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nichi CO. Products creates and provides natural health care products that promote physical, spiritual, mental and emotional well-being. Our customers are people who want to live a healthier and more natural life.

Tell us about yourself

I am a mother to two beautiful, handsome boys. Also a Mobile Notary, Brand Ambassador, Herbalist, and entrepreneur. Born in Edina, Minnesota, I was raised in Las Vegas from 6 months of age. Nichi CO. Products began after my first son was born. I ended up with postpartum hair loss. Looking for a natural remedy to help while breastfeeding, I came across a cayenne pepper recipe and altered it to fit my needs. Due to COVID, I was able to apply my time and research more products to assist people with their needs. From my hair oils, herbal teas, yoni steams, herbal bath salts, and now my newest product, the Cold Relief Salve. I am quickly on the rise to living out my dream of helping people in our community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has to be learning how to juggle my schedule as a mother and entrepreneur. I feel like I don’t just work to pay the bills. I work around my time with the boys instead of just working to live.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me that comes with being a business owner is decision-making. Daily, you have to decide what content is the best content to put out for your company. What would be a great reflection for your business? Who are the best customers for your product? Is this event the right event for me? Since I didn’t make my goal in sales, did I leave a good enough impression for the customers to come back or follow me?

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. As insane as it sounds, sales aren’t everything. The lasting impression you leave on the customer that makes you memorable is what matters. You could’ve said something that made them consider doing something to change their health for the better and believe it or not, that IS enough.
  2. Listen to everyone. But research EVERYTHING. There will be people that tell you that something didn’t work for them, but that was them. You will never know what is for you until you place yourself where you feel you need to be. Taking the time to research and listen to people’s experiences will provide you with a good balance of what could possibly happen. It’s a good guideline but not a definite outcome.
  3. Believing in yourself is beyond important. If you have thought it up with your own imagination, you can definitely do it. Impostor syndrome is real. It comes from your own fear of failure. But how can you fear failure when the best part is the results, good and bad? Once you have the results, you can reassess the situation and act accordingly. Learning from your mistakes is the fun part because now you know what not to do.
