Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in entertainment but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Walter Rodriguez, COO of NexxLegacy Radio, located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nexxlegacy is a global multimedia brand dedicated to providing direction to help strengthen aspiring artists and businesses in growing and enhancing personal goals and aspirations. Attached will be efforts to educate children and adults across the world in building a Legacy and carrying out a commitment to give back to others based on our effort, hard work, and determination to create a platform catering to building a legacy for generations. As a company, Nexxlegacy does not discriminate on race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion and will stand firmly on equal rights and freedom of speech for all.

Without a Legacy, What do you have?

Our customers vary from day to day depending on what day you tune in to NexxLegacy; that's what I love about our brand. We are able to create freely and attract new audiences/customers.

Tell us about yourself

I'm highly motivated to create generational wealth. I first got started on my business after serving the military for six years doing a tour in Afghanistan and being a production manager for a multi-million dollar company gave me a sense of perspective on myself and what I wanted to create and leave behind; I wanted to create something of my own and have the opportunity to be able to create something beautiful for my kid's kids. As far as my motivation, it's always going to be my KIDS! They give me super powers to endure anything that is put in front of me. You have to be able to preserve over it all and turn your L's into lessons and never lose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to create a platform for artists, creatives, entrepreneurs, and business owners.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

What's one? This is tough; there are so many variables and paths you have to overcome. I would probably say believing in yourself when you hit that wall, and you will hit that wall everyone does. Being able to stand in that moment and understand that what your trying to do, not everyone is going to believe in it or buy into it. It's your job to change their minds or adjust and move accordingly with energies that align with your movement/business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with good people, not yes-individuals but people that will hold you accountable. Think Management, personal, future board of advisors.
  2. Know the purpose of your plan! Seems simple, but it is not (Executive summary).
  3. Your niche, business description, and summary. The nitty-gritty of your business. Make sure you know what your business is and what you are selling, and the expected growth.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

"Stay hungry, be humble."
