Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chris Daltorio, CEO of New Velocity, located in Cary, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're a sales and leadership development organization. Our clients range from fortune 100's to small and midsize companies that want to optimize results from their sales force.

Tell us about yourself

After being salesperson of the year for 7 consecutive years at Slazenger Golf, I went into sales leadership, left to run a division of Adidas, and was then recruited back to Slazenger as the President and CEO.

We eventually sold the brand to Dick's Sporting Goods, and that's when I started what is now New Velocity. Throughout my sales career, I saw a need for sales training that was a true "program" and not an "event." That's what we've built with New Velocity.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We've helped over 30,000 sales professionals beat their number!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing so many different hats.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a mentor who's "been there, done that."
  2. Be sure you've got a business plan.
  3. Be ready to adapt.
