Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maryann Vespa, Owner of New Light Solutions, located in Livingston, MT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is helping people achieve overall well-being and encouraging others to create their own harmonious environments. I am a massage therapist, esthetician, fitness instructor, and home organizer. My clients range from tourists to locals and celebrities. I love what I do. I love to help others achieve their personal best while making connections.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in dance and fitness all of my life. As far back as I can remember, I always loved to move my body and enjoyed nature. When I was in high school, I had a best friend who was overweight. She said to me, "you don't know what it is like being fat." More than anything, I wanted to understand how she felt and what she was going through. I went so far as to try and gain weight. That did not work, although my mother threatened to paddle lock all the cabinets. Since I was not going to gain, she was going to have to lose weight. Side by side, making it fun, she lost the weight. More importantly, she got healthy. She was also my guinea pig for the all-natural face masks. After the summer, she was unrecognizable. She beamed with confidence; to this day, she is my biggest fan and cheerleader. My motivation is the feeling you get when you know you made a difference in other people's lives for the better.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The success of my clients. When someone comes to me not feeling their best, whether it through massage, skin care, fitness, organization, or a combination of those. Over time I see the changes for a happier, healthier life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would have to say learning to delegate and do the parts of the business you are best at. Finding the right help and putting yourself out there. Don't compare; your business is as unique as you are.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't listen to the nay-sayers; believe in yourself.
  2. Be open to changes in your vision.
  3. Don't wait for everything to be perfect; start where you are and grow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Hang in there; things don't always go as you planned, so being flexible is important. When things get tough, which they do, stay the course. Have fun and follow your passion.
