Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with John Nemo, Founder of Nemo Media Group, located in Saint Paul, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

For more than a decade, I've helped thousands of Accountants, Bookkeepers, Business Coaches, Consultants, CPAs, Franchise Consultants, Small Business Owners, Solopreneurs, and others leverage LinkedIn to generate nonstop leads, make 5-6 figure sales and automate the entire process.

I've built an All-Star team of top creatives and personally trained each of them for Nemo Media Group's "Done For You" LinkedIn Lead Generation agency, along with putting together more than a dozen "do it yourself" online courses sharing my favorite tips, scripts, and strategies.

Tell us about yourself

I've written 8 books, and I'm a former Associated Press Reporter, Talk Radio Producer & On-Air Talent, Award-Winning PR Director, and Social Media Consultant based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In 2012 I quit my "safe," 6 figure day job to start Nemo Media Group. I had one client, enough money for 30 days, and my wife and three young sons at home to support. I also had a plan. Within 90 days, I'd generated $135,000 USD in new sales from clients I found on LinkedIn. That led to a bestselling book (LinkedIn Riches), online courses and now a "Done For You" LinkedIn Lead Generation Agency.

I believe we live during the best era in all of human history to monetize your passion and build a business around your lifestyle and family instead of the other way around.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd say being featured by publications including The New York Times, Inc. Magazine, LinkedIn's Official Marketing Blog, and many others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Mindset is the whole game. It took me a long time to realize that income improvement follows self-improvement and that you cannot outperform your self-image. Once I finally got my mindset right, I literally tripled my revenue in one month. Especially if you are a business owner, as I tell my three sons, "Nobody's going to do it for you!" The buck starts and stops with you, and you're responsible for making it happen on a daily basis. And without the right mindset, it will be nearly impossible to achieve (and, more importantly, maintain!) success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. The riches are in the niches - if you try and be everything to everyone, you'll be nothing to no one.
  2. Figure out what people WANT to give you money for - not what you THINK they should. I've tried lots (and lots!) of different products, services, and online courses, and no matter what I come up with, people always end up WANTING to give me money for LinkedIn lead generation services. So I've focused on making that service as appealing and value-driven as possible as a result.
  3. Mindset is the whole game. Literally. The book that really clicked for me was "Psycho Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz.
