Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Iman Blyther, Owner of Neatly Done San Antonio, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our DRY extraction cleaning method eliminates many issues caused by water (steam)extraction systems by using spot removal as well as pile lifting to deep clean your carpet with absolutely no downtime or wet carpets! Your carpets will be clean and DRY upon completion, so you will be able to get right back to doing the things you love with your family. There is no need to worry about dirty water, mildew, and/or mold in your carpets as you would using wet extraction. Our customers are the kind that is conscious about the environment and love the fact of not having to worry about the wet carpet.

Tell us about yourself

I first got started in the cleaning business at an early age with my family. After years of doing that, graduating from college with undergraduate and graduate degrees, and traveling the world working for one of the largest construction companies in the world, I got tired of traveling and being away. I moved here to San Antonio from Australia and was unable to find a job after six months. I got tired of looking, so I asked myself what I had to fall back on, and carpet cleaning was the first thing that popped into my head. Now in year 4 of this business, I'm glad that I made the choices I did, as I am the only company in San Antonio (and surrounding cities/counties) that do dry carpet cleaning. My motivation each day comes from the fact that I know I am changing how people think about cleaning in general. I'd never know the steam cleaning method; we just have a different way of cleaning. Our customers are fully aware of what we do as well as our competitors.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment thus far in being a business owner is probably seeing the looks on my client's faces after we have cleaned their homes. We always educate them on what we do, how we do it, the products that we use, and most importantly, the health benefits of dry carpet cleaning. We clean apartments, houses, banks, daycares, hotels, and more, all because of how we conduct business as well as our customers' steady reviews about us.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come along with being a business owner is not always having a steady income. Some days/weeks/months, you will be unstoppable, and then there are those times in which you will question why you started the business. Continue to grow your clientele, provide a quality service or products, and all will be great.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research to see what others are doing in the area in which you are looking to start your business.
  2. Make sure it's something you want to do day in and day out, as this should be your passion and not just a job. You will get bored if it's something you're not gonna enjoy every day.
  3. Make sure you have a mentor/advisor that will help guide you through the process of being a business owner. It takes a lot and a strong person to help you when the times get rough and you feel like giving up.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Do what you love and love what you do. That's the biggest piece of advice I can give anyone that is looking to get into starting a business.
