Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a wellness business but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Nick Jensen, ND, co-owner of Divine Elements Naturopathic Family Wellness. Nick is a Naturopathic Physician and is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a Naturopathic clinic providing innovative solutions for people to optimize their health. Our favorite clinic members are those not satisfied with an ordinary life. These individuals no longer want to suppress and distract themselves from the discomfort they feel. They want to move beyond symptom-based treatments/medications and truly take back their health without suffering. They want to experience new levels of energy, live without pain, have optimal brain and gut health, and feel empowered about the choices they make to prevent illness from showing up in the first place. Our clients are given the tools to be involved in their healing practice, which requires Testing, Hormone Optimization, Detoxification strategies, Lifestyle Medicine, fasting, and Longevity practices to live their best life.
Tell us about yourself
I wanted answers to the health questions I had. I understood the fear and anxiety of not knowing how the body worked or what the messages/symptoms of the body meant. It was liberating to know how things worked and how dis-ease could manifest. I also saw firsthand the direct impact of how our health depended on our lifestyle, how we ate, how we moved our bodies. I saw many family members suffering needlessly with the daily habits that sped the deterioration. Becoming a Doctor, I found many tools and treatments to support people to take an active role in their health. I am motivated by learning, studying, and experiencing ways to optimize one's health and mindset. It becomes a driving force for my health, my family, and the people we treat.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a business with my wife, building an incredible community of people achieving better health, and expanding our business, creating what we call The Longevity Lab. In a nutshell, watching the evolution of ourselves, our relationship with each other, our clinic members, and how we do Naturopathic Medicine.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The many hats we wear. We can't just show up to work and do what we love. We manage, train, do the books, create the systems, innovate, and do the Doctoring.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have a mentor, get a business coach and connect with as many people as possible to collaborate and have accountability. The biggest challenge is when we feel alone. Building community while building your business can help bring the energy you need to make it successful.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
It's easy to get wrapped up in what's not working. We can spend a lot of time focusing on the little daily challenges, forgetting to celebrate our wins. We meander through the day putting out fires when we need to be more intentional with our mindset, behavior, how we show up and align with our desired outcomes.
