Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Natalie Shay, Founder of Natalie Shay Healing, located in Calabasas, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a life coach that helps emotional eating make peace with food and their bodies. I work with women who struggle with emotional and binge eating to support them in healing their relationship with food, their bodies, and themselves.

Tell us about yourself

I struggled with emotional eating from the age of 6. I tried every diet, pill, surgery, and form of weight loss I could get my hands on. Even when I lost weight, I wasn't happy. It wasn't until I was 20 that I realized that my outsides would never bring me peace. I needed to heal from the inside out. The more I healed, the more I realized I wanted to help other women heal their relationship with food and their bodies. This was when I became a psychotherapist and life coach. I have been working with women who struggle with food for 20 years. Being able to help people connect to their bodies and heal themselves is the most motivating thing I can do. I love witnessing people on their healing journey and being a part of it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having a regular client base with a waitlist and growing my Instagram to over 20,000 people to be able to share my story and help others heal.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

When my kids are sick, or I want to take time off, it is hard to take time away from work for emotional reasons. I know people need stability, and I want to make sure I can support them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be authentic; people can see through you if you are not.
  2. Be consistent with whatever marketing platforms you use.
  3. Be humble and continue learning; no matter how well you do, there is always room for growth.
